Welcome to Family History Narratives

Three Millers From Ephrata: A Family’s Beginnings in America

In the early 1700s, Heinrich Miller emigrated to the American Colonies to make a new life for himself and his family. The Palatine region of Germany where he lived had become almost untenable, wracked by wars, famine, and political and religious instability. So Miller joined more than 100,000 of his countrymen in sailing across the Atlantic. Landing in Pennsylvania, he settled in Germantown just outside Philadelphia.

This narrative traces three generations of the Henry Miller family – each man named Henry – from their emigration from Germany in the early 1700s and settlement in the Lancaster County town of Ephrata to becoming part of the community and finding their American identity in the Revolutionary War era. It weaves genealogical findings with historical context to bring their story to life.

It also demonstrates how documented genealogical research can be transformed into a readable family history narrative.
